Google announces Google TV

by Aanarav Sareen on May 20, 2010

Today, at their I/O conference, Google announced Google TV. The product has been mentioned a few times prior to it’s official announcement and should be an interesting step forward for web based television. Will it work? It could and would have a big impact on IPTV.

Companies like Boxee should also analyze how this impacts their model. Based on initial demos, it might be a big blow.

If you’re developing content for Google TV, I highly recommend this primer. It’s interesting to see that under video requirements, the new Google codec (WebM) is not supported.
