Editing YouTube Videos

by Aanarav Sareen on June 17, 2010

YouTube continues to improve its feature set frequently. Yesterday, YouTube announced that it was now possible to edit videos directly on the site. Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to http://www.youtube.com/editor?popart=681928
  2. Select a previously uploaded video from the left and drag it into the timeline.
  3. If you need to edit the clip, hover over the thumbnail in the timeline and click on the scissor icon.
  4. Trim your video as required and click on ‘Save.’
  5. Add more video clips.
  6. Click on the ‘Audio’ tab and drag music into the audio timeline.
  7. Click on ‘Play’ to preview your edited video.

While this is YouTube’s first official foray into mixing and matching clips, it is a good step forward. While the system is still primitive, the potential to innovate is tremendous.
